![]() ![]() The clergy involved with the project were heavyweights that you've read about and listened to some of their sermons. We asked everyone, ’What was your involvement in the church? How do you come to know the LORD? What was your experience?’ That was a genuine moment for the interviewees, whether it was Oprah, Jennifer Hudson or John Legend talking about their first experience in the church or their most memorable experience, you felt like they were 12 years old telling the story. That experience set the tone for me and my colleagues how personal this story was. During production, we traveled to Piedmont, West Virginia to one of the churches where he grew up, a Methodist church that had everything one would expect from a church that's predominantly Black and welcoming home their son or their daughter. Doing so took listening to his tone in talking about his experience growing up in the church, which drew me into supporting the project. ![]() This is a project that he's been wanting to do for a while and is the right time for him to do it.
